Founded in 1939, El Cerrito Troop 104 has a long history of scouting activities and service to the community while developing the character and leadership of its youth. Our scouting experience is open to all youth between the ages of 11 and 18. Although many of our scouts started as Cub Scouts, this is not a prerequisite—all youth start learning the basics of scouting and outdoor skills at the same point. As scouts learn, they progress through ranks, possibly even reaching Eagle, the ultimate advancement in Scouts BSA.
Our regular activities include kayaking, helping set up and take down the local Shadi Holiday Display in El Cerrito, and spending a week each summer at historic Camp Wolfeboro. As a troop, we are fun-loving, inclusive, and a bit on the "informal" side, although we do stress the importance of reverence and respect in the appropriate time and place. In 2026, our troop made the decision to change from a historically "boys only" troop to a "family troop," welcoming youth of any gender identity. We hope this will enable us to continue being a welcome place for all youth to grow.
